Week 7 - Match Reports

WOMEN'S 1'S:

Crowborough Women's 1's travelled to Brighton for an early pushback with a number of players returning after a few weeks off. The team started well, weathering the early push from Brighton 4s and staging a number of breakaway attacks. In defense the team were strong and worked as a unit, they were unlucky to be undone by a goal that looped over the defense and into the goal. The 1st half finished 1-0. The team came out well in the 2nd half putting together some good linking play but despite this and several short corners, they were unable to find the net. Brighton got a run of short corners and with the ball squirming free were able to bundle the ball over the line. Crowborough continued to press but couldn't find a goal so they match finished in 0-2 loss. Player of the match went to Sam Williams for her amazing return after a few months off.


WOMEN'S 2'S:

Crowborough Women's 2's played Worthing 2's at home on Saturday, the game started strong with the Crows making some beautiful passes and transfers across the pitch however Worthing’s defense was strong and any attempts at goal were soon stopped in action. This lead the Crows to form a high press which meant a straight strike from Jess J was deflected in by the opposition. Crows defensive team of Claire N, Becky I and Alison Y made some fantastic clearances whenever the ball came their way, meaning Jane French, Crows goalie only got to touch the ball once or twice. The final score was 1-0 to the Crows, which means another 3 points in the bag. Player of the match went to Wing back Sophia D, for her determination through out the game and enabling her team mates to play such an attacking game.


WOMEN'S 3'S:

Crowborough Women’s 3’s travelled to Brighton for a late 4.15pm pushback on Saturday., they made a dominant start pushing straight up into the Brighton D. Some excellent passing and runs led to an early goal from Amber V. Lizzie P pushed up again and again excelling in her new position of wing back and giving her a well deserved Player of the match. She fed the ball into Josie M who won a short corner for the Crows and scored from a fantastic strike. Despite some break away runs from Brighton the defense held strong with some great clearances from Sarah M and Bethy C who was back on the pitch after a 3 month injury. Holly S showed her versatility by subbing into new positions and winning the ball time and again. Crowborough continued to dominate with Bethany B and Hannah from girl's development showing great skill and positioning, they where unlucky not to score. Josie M scored another before a fantastic individual goal from Jess I. A superb performance by the whole team for a confident 4-0 win.


WOMEN'S 4'S:

Crowborough Women's 4's played Burgess Hills 4s at Beacon on Saturday, Crowborough dominated from the off but despite multiple chances took a while to get the ball over the line. The first goal came from Player of the match Flo F who after some 1-2 play with Fiona V-H found herself in prime position and was not going to miss. It was her 1st goal in the Women's league. The 2nd goal closely followed when Jemima had a 1-1 with the goalie and some good hustling saw her get it over the line. After half time Burgess Hill came back fighting and scored from a short corner however Crowborough quickly responded, scoring again after winning their own short corner with Flo F finding the back board again. The final goal came from some excellent wing running from Tabi C who crossed the ball to Jemima who lifted it in the air for Libby Hamill to strike home - the final score being a 4-1 win for our young side.


MEN'S 1'S:

Crowborough Men's 1s went to Crawley for an early start on Saturday. Straight from Crawley's push back, both teams were out to win. Crawley's midfield were crucial throughout the game finding their forwards shots on goal. Between Crowborough's defense and keeper, they were able to hold off several straight shots and short corners. Crowborough's midfield and forwards put up their own fight with multiple shots narrowly slipping past the goal. Leading into the end if the 1st half, Crawley were able to get a last minute short corner. Crawley attempted a drag flick which was once again swiftly saved by Mikey O however Crawley were able to get it back and slip it past to score the only goal before half time. Going into the 2nd half, Crowborough came out for blood getting a short corner within the 1st few seconds of the half. They continued their assault on goal throughout the 2nd half with Dan C finding the back of the net bring the game to a draw. Throughout the final stages of the game, both teams continued to have opportunities however Crowborough held their own and couldn't have been closer to getting another win. The game ended Crowborough 1 - 1 Crawley with Mikey O being Player of the match as he really kept his team in the game.


MEN'S 3'S:

The 3's had an early push back on the coast on Saturday. A spirited start from the team saw a chance created which then the home side saw off and go the full length of the pitch and a quality finish. That unfortunately was the story of most of the 1st half with Brighton taking their chances and moved into a strong position. The visitors in the 2nd half created more chances which James L managed to put 1 away from the edge of the D - assist went to Jude F. Throughout the game the Burn's brothers (Steven and Matt) played with composer and quality. The Player of the match went to Mark F for his outstanding display in goal, without his quality saves the home side would have scored in the double figures. An 8-1 defeat for the Crows but some great play from the side. Well done to all the youngsters on keeping going until the end.
