WOMEN’S 1’S:
Crowborough Women's 1's travelled to East Grinstead to play their 3's with the only 2 teams left unbeaten in the league playing each other. Crowborough switched up the formation and welcomed back their Captain Sam W. Right from the off the team pressed together and created chances early on. As the half progressed the match became end to end with East Grinstead pushing high. A number of strong saves from Sandra H kept the opposition at bay. However with less than 2 minutes to go in the first half East Grinstead struck making it 1:0 at half time. Crowborough went into the second half determined and were rewarded when a defensive lapse lead to a pass being intercepted by Sam W who smashed the ball into the net from the top of the D, amazingly breaking the ball in the process. The Crows dug deep but with 15 minutes to go the opposition got 2 goals in quick succession. The game finished in a 3:1 loss and while the team were incredibly happy with how they played that was overshadowed by a bad knee injury to Charlotte R. Player of the match went to Amanda C for her awesome defending at centre back.
WOMEN’S 2’S:
Crowborough Women's 2's travelled to Eastbourne to play their 3's team on Saturday. Eastbourne started strong, making attempts on goal however the incredible centre backs Daisy H and Dani N were quick to stop any attempts and cleared the ball wide to speedy wing backs Claire N and Meg J who pushed the ball up the pitch. Lottie C scored the first goal for the crows after whizzing past all of the Eastbourne players and teasing the goalie out to then slot the ball into the bottom corner of the goal. Matilda W soon also joined the score board with another cracking goal meaning the Crows were 2:0 up going into the second half. The second half saw Flo F and Tabbi C making further attacks on goal but Eastbourne were quick to react and sadly no further goals were scored by the Crows. Eastbourne managed to bag a goal in the final few minutes making the final score 2:1 to the Crows. Players of the match went to Daisy H for her fantastic play, truly some of the best hockey we’ve seen so far this season. She was joined by Caroline C who dominated the game throughout and enabled the Crows to come away with the well deserved points.
WOMEN’S 3’S:
The Women’s 3’s played Burgess Hill 3’s on Saturday after a slight delay. The Crows played well together but the opposition where very strong and where well drilled. The game was not without drama as Alice D the goalie made a cracking high save but unfortunately injured her shoulder in the process. Luckily Ana D stepped in last minute and kitted up to be the Crows goalie for the rest of the game. She played so well and really stepped up for her team which earned her Player of the match. Sally B scored a great goal, going round the keeper and slotting the ball home for the Crows but despite this it was not meant to be and the score line finished in a 3:1 loss.
WOMEN’S 4’S:
Crowborough Women’s 4’s played Brighton & Hove 8’s on Saturday. With the previous game running 30 minutes late, Charlotte R goalkeeper being injured last minute so was unable play and travelling with a flat 11 the odds where against the Crows before the game had started. Luckily the lovely Amanda C stepped in as goalkeeper even though she had never kitted up before. Despite the dramatic start every single player stepped up for the team as they knew they needed to and left their heart and soul on the pitch. It was an end-to-end game but the opposition had a few more dangerous chances than the Crows but the back line had it covered. The midfield ran the whole 70 minutes without complaints and played some wonderful balls out wide to the wingers. The game ended in a 0:0 draw but wow the determination from everyone was impeccable. Special mentions went to Amanda C in goal as she made some great saves and really kept the Crows in the game, aswell as Jennie T and Henrietta L for pushing forward with the play and creating some great chances. Player of the match went to Rachael-may Catling for her superb play as wing back. Up the Borough!
MEN’S 1’S:
Crowborough Men's 1's welcomed Horsham 3's on Saturday. Borough were keen to get their first home win of the season so started the game off well. Their transferring round the back made loads of opportunities for the team as they pushed forward. The first goal came from a penalty flick converted by Harry T. With Crowborough continually putting on the pressure and pressing high they managed to get another goal from a well drilled drag flick from Chris C. The Crows dominated the game and scored a further three goals from Olly Y, Hamish M and James P. Player of the match went to Finn Alexander.
MEN’S 3’S:
On Saturday Crowborough Men's 3's had a really strong performance. Well done to Harvey H and James L with their goals, allowing the team to win 2:0 but it could’ve been far more. The formation seemed to suit them and everyone worked hard, often taking time to look up and pass around the opposition. It was a joy to watch. Harvey H and Jacob are joint players of the match but a number of players probably deserve that accolade. The whole match was played in a competitive and sporting manner which is a credit to all who took part.
