Week 3 - Match Reports

WOMEN'S 1'S:
Women's 1s travelled to an early pushback away at Horsham last Saturday. The opposition were recently relegated so the team knew it would be a hard match. The game started brightly with both teams having good attacks that were snubbed out by the respective defences. Crowborough attacked with speed and were unlucky hitting the post twice during the first half. Horsham pushed hard and scored 2 quick goals with the second coming despite them having a player who had fallen on the floor near the goal. Undeterred the Crows continued to press and hit the post again. The interlinking and attacking play from Jess I, Tabi C and Flo F upfront remained positive with some lovely balls threaded through from Charlotte R and Lucy S in midfield. Despite the hard work the score line remained 2:0 at half time. Crowborough regrouped for the second half with some excellent defensive work by Millie R-G, Kati I, Clare B and Grace M. The team continued to press and were rewarded with several penalty corners and were unlucky not to convert. With 10 minutes to go Boro for another corner which was expert struck by Nikki C with Amanda C getting a deflection to make it 2:1. With 4 minutes to go Boro won yet another corner which was stopped on the line by a Horsham foot and a penalty stroke was award. Amanda C stepped forward as Captain to convert to score her brace. The last few minutes were end to end with Tilly S, who was solid throughout, making some excellent saves to keep the score at 2:2. The game finished 2:2 with player of the match going to Lucy S for giving everything and playing 4 different positions throughout the game.
WOMEN'S 3'S VS WOMEN'S 2'S:
On a sunny Crowborough afternoon Women's 2's played Women's 3's in a keenly contested match at Beacon. The battle was end to end with the 3's pressing high up the pitch and creating more of the early chances. The 2's broke the deadlock with Eve slotting away the teams first goal. The 3's fought back and were rewarded when Fiona v-H struck with a deadly finish from the top of the D. The match was carefully poised at 1:1 at half time. After the break the end of end game continued but with about 15 minutes to go the 2's fought their way through with 3 quick goals, 2 more from Eve T and one from Flo Fuller. The match finished 4:1 and a great time was had by all
WOMEN'S 4'S:
Women's 4’s hosted Burgess Hill Flames at home in the sun on Saturday. A nervy start by borough led to a press from Burgess Hill but the home side soon settled into there stride. A break away from Burgess Hill led to an early goal but Crowborough were soon back on the attack. New player and joint Player of the Match Karen linked well with Charlie O to outmanoeuvre the oppositions defence. Amber V was soon firing into the D and Charlie O equalised for a half time score of 1 all. Henrietta L was excellent as wing back feeding other Player of the Match Amber H the perfect passes meaning Amber H could press the ball forward. The relentless attack from Crowborough was soon rewarded with a goal from Bethany B. Captain Sarah M, Bethy C and Holly S were fantastic in defence constantly firing the ball back into attack. A delighted team start there season with a confident 2:1 victory.
MEN'S 1'S:
The Men's 1's welcomed Southwick 1's to our home pitch last Saturday, Southwick usually dominate the league and the Crows were missing a few vital players this week so they knew this game would be tough. The oppo started strong and slotted their first goal away in the first minute of the game but Borough fought back by creating chances which were stopped by some incredible saves. The Crows dominated parts of the game but Southwick kept finding their way through on the counter attack and converting multiple short corners. Crowborough were awarded a Penalty flick after constant pressure but the Southwick keeper made fantastic save. The second half saw borough manage to convert a Penalty flick by Cameron McC and later on Hamish M made it on the score sheet. The game finished 2:5 with Player of the Match going to Finn A.
MEN'S 2'S:
The Men's 2's traveled away for a 10 am pushback against Eastbourne on Saturday. With Eastbourne winning the toss they had push back but the Crows didn’t let that last long with great press from Ted F ,Rohan M and Will H it left the opposition with no safe options and forced a mistake. The Crows quickly over turned the ball gaining possession and holding it up in there 25 . After a while of not being able to find the goal a short corner was won where Rohan M flicked it past the keeper making it 1:0. The next goal for crowborough came under very similar circumstances but this time was a shot from top of the D again by Rohan M on a short. Crowborough then continued to play the ball around the back and in and out of midfield with the back line eliminating all of Eastbourne’s pressure and quickly turning over. The next goal for Crowborough came with open play after a fantastic ball from Darren P in the middle made it into there D where after a scrappy few minutes Sam A managed to get a touch on the ball making it 3:0. Eastbourne then broke through winning a short corner on a foot and found the net for 3:1. With not a great deal of time left Andy O and Will hook drove the ball up between them where an Eastbourne defender stopped Will H shot on the line with his foot resulting in a Penalty flick. This was taken by Ethan B who executed it perfectly bringing the final score to a 4:1 win.
MEN'S 3'S:
With a strong full squad of 16 unlike previous weeks, the Men’s 3’s hosted Horsham 5’s for a hot September morning pushback. Using a solid 4-4-2 formation, the Crows started fast, pushing high up the pitch and creating positive opportunities. However as the match went on, the experienced Horsham side began making fast passes cutting right through the midfield. The Crows conceded twice but under pressure, midfielder Matt C stayed calm and composed and slotted his shot pass the keeper. With Matt’s goal lifting the hosts spirits, Crowborough never stopped trying. With runs from Eddie D, Jacob S and Lewis H always looking to create chances. It was the visitors back line that simply snuffed out all attacks and preventing the Crows from equalising. The score ended Crowborough 3’s 1:2 Horsham 5’s
GIRL'S DEVELOPMENT:
Girls Development travelled to Worth to play a well drilled Hawks side last Saturday. With just a flat 11 and a hot afternoon the decision was made to play quarters. The Crows were first off the mark scoring from a defensive mishap which saw the opposition passing the ball back into their own goal following super work from Sophia and Lexi H. Winning the first quarter, Hawks then soared back and scored a single goal in each of the next three to take a two goal lead. The Crows fought back hard with Ana, Amber and Phoebe who where excellent at the back and Isla making some crucial saves in goal. In the last minutes Morwenna on her debut, with Amelia and Harry combined to put the goalkeeper under pressure but shot ended up just wide. They continued to press with Sophia firing forward, winning a penalty corner after Lexi took a hit to the face from an accidental goalkeeper stick. Reduced to ten they held tight with Hannah holding the middle with confidence. The girls lost 3:1 but all played with determination and promise.
BOY'S DEVELOPMENT:
Boy's Development came back from three down last Saturday to draw 3:3 with Horsham at home. There was a brace for Hayden and a final goal from Henry W and a strong performance all round.
