Week 3 - Match Reports

WOMEN'S 1'S:

Women's 1's had their 1st home match of the season against Middleton this week and it sure was a close game. The team started slowly to a well drilled away team and found themselves 2:0 down in the 1st 20 minutes. The team worked together and started to gel, with some flowing moves however the half time score remained the same. Crowborough started the 2nd half full of energy and had a goal back after a penetrating run by Kate B who was floored by the away keeper, the ball then fell to Jet who finished it on her reverse stick. The 1's continued to press and were rewarded with a short corner which was expertly deflected home by Sharon M. With this new vigor the game was end to end, however Middleton broke free and scored their 3rd. The game finished as a 3:2 loss despite everyone on the team giving everything. Player of the Match was given jointly to Kate B and Sharron M for their excellent performances.

WOMEN'S 2'S:

Women's 2's took on Horsham at home on Saturday, it was a beautiful sunny day and for once wasn't raining. The Crows dominated the game with plenty of runs and shots on goal from the forwards, however Horsham's goalie was not going to let anything in. Just before the whistle blew for half time Horsham managed to sneak a goal past Jane F in goal meaning Crowborough where 1:0 down going into the 2nd half. Despite the score line Crowborough went into the 2nd half fighting and it worked beautifully. Wing back Sophia D was on top form attacking and defending the ball brilliantly and even helping Crowborough to score their 1st goal by passing the ball down to Josie M who ran up the pitch and made the perfect ball to Michelle H who slotted the ball away for the Crows. Josie M then ran by herself across most of the pitch to get another goal on her reverse stick, an amazing solo goal. Horsham then matched Crowborough energy and managed to get themselves a penalty flick which just made it past Jane F. With minutes to go Horsham managed to get a 3rd goal however this didn't mean the end of the game from Crowborough as they where determined to get some points out of this game. The whole team rallied together and Michelle H managed to bag the 3rd and final goal of the match meaning it ended in a 3:3 draw. Player of the Match went to Emma C for her fantastic play throughout.

WOMEN'S 3'S:

The Women's 3's played our very own Women's 4's on Saturday at Beacon astroturf, it was an evenly matched game with the Women's 3's showing there strength and physicality to fight of the youth of the Crowborough Women's side being the ring fenced Women's 4's team. The defense run by Sarah M was strong and they fought of every attack the Women's 4's had, even when the ball made it through the defense Sam W saved every single shot which came her way. The midfield ran and ran all game along with the forwards who made some great attempts on goal but nothing came of it. It was great to see some new players to Crowborough shine this weekend including Charley, Holly and Amber. The game ended in a 0:0 draw despite awesome play from both sides including a nail biting ending where the Women's 3's has to defend a last minute short corner against all of the Crowborough 4's players after the game had finished, but the defense pulled together and made one last effort to keep the score level and succeeded. Player of the match went Jess I but also with honorable mentions to Lizzie and Eve.

WOMEN'S 4'S:

Women's 4's played our very own Women's 3's side on Saturday and what a cracking game from both sides. The Women's 4's did so well holding their own with only one sub in the 1st half and none in the 2nd half. Fiona V and Daisy made some excellent passes getting through to our forwards Poppy Rand Jemima in her debut for the club. They had some good attempts on goal from our forwards but not quite managing to get it past their keeper. Jane F made some excellent saves for Women's 4's with her defenders working hard to keep the ball out. Player of the Match was joint between Grace and Flo, Flo for her excellent play in midfield and crating lovely spaces and Grace for working beautifully as a wing back and being a great back up for the forwards. The girl's where amazing and can't wait for their game next week.

MEN'S 1'S:

Crowborough Men's 1's travelled down to Eastbourne for an early 10am push back on Saturday, they tried a new formation which lead to the start of the game having some mistakes and a short corner against Crowborough within the 1st 2 minutes of the game. However once Crowborough found their feet they were able to go back to the great hockey they have been playing the past 2 weeks. James P scored Crowborough's 1st goal which was well worked past Eastbourne's keeper with the help of Hamish M for the assist. The oppositions keeper played exceptionally keeping Eastbourne in the game however with Freddie L and Jake S Crowborough managed to get 2 further goals past them in the 1st half. Going into the 2nd half Eastbourne came out swinging, using their skill and teamwork to try to but Crowborough under pressure and try to get a goal back, this lead to them winning short corners throughout the 2nd half however with Crowborough's consistent defense they were able to save most of their attempts. Eastbourne did eventually get one past Crowborough to make it 3:1 but the Men's 1's kept pushing throughout the 2nd half and Hamish M was able to score Crowborough's 4th and final goal of the game, meaning another terrific victory for Men's 1's with a 4:1 win. It was an excellent display of teamwork and tenacity from Crowborough and Player of the Match went to Hamish M.

MEN'S 2'S:

Crowborough Men's 2's travelled to Horsham with a team in transition and were on the back foot almost immediately. They found themselves 2 down in the 1st quarter of an hour despite a number of attempts on goal. The team began to gel together and played some great hockey gaining a couple of short corners although Horsham managed to breakaway and get a 3rd goal just before half time. The 2nd half began in a similar manner as Horsham scored 2 further goals but this time it was more against the run of play as Crowborough were certainly trusting each other and playing some good hockey. Crowborough managed to gain some short corners with some good attempts on goal with Harry M finding himself in the right positions but unable to put a couple of chances away. In the end Crowborough walked off having conceded 5 goals but each and every player should know that there were great moments and opportunities in the game and the team will just get better as the season goes on.

GIRL'S DEVELOPMENT:

The Girl's Development team visited Bedes on Saturday and it was a bright, sunny morning. With debut matches from Alice, Saania, Sofia and Amber Crowborough's fresh new team where ready to go. Tabbi showed amazing ability upfront with at least half a dozen strong attacks on goal in the 1st half with one particular cracking piece of play which ended in a goal. Midfield saw some really strong play from Catherine and Olivia, giving the Bedes team a run for their money and keeping them busy. Alice in goal and the defensive team showed amazing resilience and were amazing at getting the ball out considering short corners where in double figures. Specifically Amber showed brilliant efforts in defense, constantly harassing the attacking play by Bedes. The 4:1 loss score line is not a true reflection of the game, the team has a lot of potential and is guaranteed to grow and improve over the coming season.

BOY'S DEVELOPMENT:

A young Boy's development team came up against an experienced Horsham side and despite some great passages of play the experience counted. Crowborough battled throughout, defended stoutly and created some excellent chances. The match was played in the spirit of the development league with impeccable behaviour from all players. The game ended in a 5:0 loss.
