Week 16 - Match Reports

WOMEN'S 1'S:

Brighton & Hove 4's visited Beacon on Saturday to play our Women's 1s. The team flew out the blocks, applying early pressure and were rewarded when Sam W finished expertly to give the Crows the lead. After that Brighton stepped up and grew into the game which pushed Crowborough into a more defensive style of play, resulting in 2 goals for Brighton before half time. The 1's went into the second half with determination but continued to be put under pressure particularly by the 2 Brighton playmakers in midfield. The team conceded a further 2 goals but dug deep and kept trying to work the ball up the pitch and were rewarded following another excellent shot from Sam W being deflected in by Grace M on the post. As the team tired, another goal was conceded making the final score 2:5 to Brighton and joint Player of the match went to Millie R-G and Tilly R-R.

WOMEN'S 2'S:

Women's 2's set off to Worthing to play their ladies 2's team. The Crows started strong, making some fantastic transfers across the pitch, keeping Worthing on their toes at all times. Hannah W and Eve T got ahold of the ball and played some outstanding hockey together, passing with speed and accuracy, which enabled Hannah W to strike in the first goal. Unfortunately captain Josie Mitchell got injured in the 1st half, meaning the Crows were a player down for the rest of the game. We all wish her a speedy recovery and the team will miss the energy and positivity she brings. However the ladies battled on and we soon saw forward Tabbi C to score another for the team with the help of Jess J. The 2nd half unfortunately didn’t go to plan for the Crows, with Worthing making constant changes with their ‘unlimited’ subs, so fresh legs took full advantage of the Crows having to play a full half with no subs. Worthing managed to get 2 goals in past goalie Tilly S, who had made some incredible saves prior but sadly they had players in right place at the right time. The score ended 2:2, not the result that the Crows had hoped for but still a success to come away with a strong draw.

WOMEN'S 3'S:

Women's 3's played bottom of the league Brighton & Hove 8's on Saturday, they expected it to be an easy win however the opposition put out a strong team and played some really good hockey which proved hard for the Crows to break down. They quickly went 1:0 down with a well worked goal which the defense couldn't cope with. They regrouped at half time and put out a much better performance for the 2nd half. It took another goal to be conceded for the Crows to really turn it around, they quickly retaliated with a lovely strike from Bethany Burns to make it 2:1. The strong defense defended well for the rest of the half and they midfield and attack made some good attempts on goal but it was not to be for the Crows. The game ended in a 2:1 loss, Player of the match went to Jennie T for some fantastic stops in the D and for putting in a great shift.

WOMEN'S 4'S:

Women's 4's won 2:0 against Burgess Hill 4's on Saturday. The goals went to Flo F who was also awarded Plyer of the match and Catherine McK adding to there personal tallies. Everyone worked hard throughout and the team are trying their absolute best to secure promotion this season.

MEN'S 1'S:

Men's 1's hosted Crawley 2's for a well deserved 4:3 win. Crowborough started the game of very well so went 1:0 up within the 1st 10 minutes however Crawley brought it back to a 1:1 draw just before half time as they started to get more comfortable in the game. Crowborough went into the 2nd half with some new found passion so soon went 4:1 up but Crawley managed to bring it back to 4:3 with a penalty flick and short corner. Olly Y scored 3, Sam C scored 1 and Gregory S got Player of the match.

MEN'S 2'S:

Crowborough 2's edged past Southwick in hard fought away victory on Saturday. Crowborough 2's made the journey to Southwick and were quickly ahead when Ian E steered a shot into the backboard but Southwick responded quickly with a goal of their own, and as the first half wore on, the hosts grew into the game. Southwick’s high press kept Crowborough pinned in their own half at times, but the visitors held firm, absorbing the pressure and looking to strike on the counter. In the 2nd half, it was once again the captain who made the difference, with the keeper sprawled on the deck, he executed a flick over him to restore Crowborough’s lead at 2-1. From there, the team dug in defensively, pressing Southwick with relentless energy and despite creating further chances Crowborough couldn’t extend their lead, but their disciplined defending ensured the score remained unchanged. A battling performance, a brace from the skipper, and a well-earned 2:1 win on the road—job done for Crowborough 2's!

MEN'S 3'S:

The Men’s 3’s hosted Brighton & Hove 10’s for a Sunny lunchtime push back on Saturday. Crowborough were eager to start the game with a more aggressive set up by pushing more players forward with the intent of overloading the visitors. This soon paid off with a strong pass from Tim P to Stuart S, who committed the keeper but let the ball run all the way through to the back post where Jacob S was waiting for a simple tap in. The game became very much end to end with Brighton equalising soon after the Crows first goal. Captain Stuart S then scrambling 1 in for himself, Brighton then equalised again however it was Stuart S who had the last say in the match as Eddie Dennett set 1 up for him to fire in from the edge of the area. It was a great performance all-round and a 3:2 victory for Men's 3's.
