Women's 1's:
The Women's 1's comprehensively beat Horsham 4's 6:0 on Saturday morning. Crowborough pressed from the first minute, closing down Horsham possession and quickly turned this over to the breakthrough goal from Kate B's short corner strike. Despite Horsham's continuous effort, Crowborough dominated the game across all lines. Half time ended 4:0 to the Women's 1's. Knowing that Horsham wouldn't give up, Crowborough dug deep in the 2nd half in a clinical display. A hattrick from Jet V-Z and goals from Sam W and Kate B.
Women's 2's:
Crowborough Women's 2s traveled to Little Hampton to take on Middleton ladies 2s team last Saturday. The game was tough and physical, all Crows battled throughout. Eve T was on top form as usual, which enabled Jenny B to score the first goal of the game. In the 2nd half Middleton managed to bag a short corner, which sadly it did go in despite top notch defending throughout the game from the defensive back line - Claire N and Michelle H - and we saw wing backs Becky I and Sophia D play some incredible hockey.  The final score was a 1:1 draw and Player of the match went to the team because they all worked so well together and managed to get a point on board in a very physically challenging game.
Women's 3's:
Crowborough Women’s 3’s were the first game on Saturday at a misty Beacon astro against the unbeaten Lewes 5’s who are top of the league. The team had a clear plan of attack created by the awesome Captain Sarah M and were determined to have a competitive game. Crowborough we’re on fire, every member of the team gave 100%. Lewis attacked fast but Crowborough's defensive line held strong with Bethy C and Captain Sarah M clearing wide for the wingbacks to attack straight back at them and put the opposition under lots of pressure. Jess I made some excellent runs and soon we were passing into the D. Bethany B in only her second adult match was always in the right place and kept battling for the ball to create some chances for the Crows. Crowborough held shape beautifully and after 20mins a pass from Holly S led to a fabulous strike from Charlie O for Crowborough to take the lead. Both teams had short corners and goal opportunities but neither could convert anything into a goal despite Amber V's best efforts for the Crows. Player of the match went to goalie Alice Walker for making some outstanding saves to keep Lewes out of the game, she was extremely impressive especially as she had never played with the Women's 3's before. In the 2nd half an injury to forward Anoushka W left Crowborough scrambling for positions which just gave enough of an opportunity to Lewes to find a gap and steal the equalizer. This re energized Lewes but Crowborough's defense held strong all the way to the end to finish the gam in a 1:1 draw. An outstanding result for the team. and a complete team performance.
Women's 4's:
Crowborough Women's 4s had the last game of the day under the lights at Beacon astro on Saturday last week. The game started well with the ladies playing some of their best hockey this season. They used the width just like they have been practicing in training at every opportunity and drove the ball into the D putting pressure on the opposition and this meant they could convert these opportunities into goals. This meant they where 3:0 up at half time and continued to dominate the game meaning it finished in a 6:0 win. Goal scorers were Flo F x1, Matilda W x1, Tabi C x2 and Fiona V-H x2. Player of the match went to Isla P for marking the oppositions strongest player so well that it created opportunities for everyone else.
Men's 1's:
Men's 1's came up against Brighton 4's on Saturday for a physical game to determine who will walk away being top of the league. From push back both teams gave it their all which lead to a stalemate with neither team being able to get shots on goal. Eventually both teams found shorts corners and shots on goal but both keepers were able to make easy work of straight shots at first. Crowborough's tides turned with Freddie L coming in late to the game but with his ability to keep the ball glued to his stick, he was able to get through several Brighton players leading to a short corner which Hamish M was able to flick past Brighton's goalie putting Crowborough 1:0 up at half time. In the 2nd half, both teams became physical leading to Crowborough going down to 10 players for the final 25 minutes of the game. With this advantage to Brighton, they were able to get a goal leaving the game a 1:1 draw. Player of the match went to Tom James.
Men's 2's:
Crowborough Men’s 2's hosted East Grinstead on Saturday, the game was played at a great pace from the start and both teams created chances on goal. However it was the visitors who took the lead 20 minutes in, when the Crowborough defense switched off momentarily, the score remained unchanged going in to half time. A positive, inspiring team talk gave the players the extra 10% they needed and Crowborough were on the front foot immediately levelling the score through Harry M in the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half. Although Crowborough were dominant East Grinstead managed to regain the lead through a well worked short corner. Despite this Crowborough were still playing positively and a fantastic long ball from Phil N found Ian E out wide and he was one on one with the last defender but this did not phase him and he slotted it home for the Crows meaning the scores where level with 15 minutes to play. The opposition tried forcing the winner but Mark F and the entire defense held strong and the Crowborough midfield were still creating opportunities and with 5 minutes to go Matt C found the deserved winner meaning the game ended in a 3:2 victory for the Crows.
Men's 3's:
On Saturday a reshaped Men's 3's side saw an early morning trip down to the sunshine Coast. Amazingly in this game Crowborough conceded 18 short corners with only 1 converted by Eastbourne 5's due to Crowborough's strong defense, the back 3 showed composure all game and saw the platform for the rest of the team to try an exploit. Throughout the game Crowborough created a number of excellent chances which on a different day would have resulted in a barrage of goals and a fine performance by the oppositions goalkeeper kept the scores level throughout the game. In the 2nd half Jude F slotted an excellent shot home for the Crow's at the far post, this gave the team confidence and with a few minutes to play Crowborough upped the pace and tempo. An excellent play from midfield saw Ted F drive towards the D with a majestic pass to the tireless James L up front, James hit a first time strike that was goal bound until the Eastbourne keeper pulled off the save of the day, which was a diving save to his left which saw a big hand push the shot just wide. The team considered themselves unlucky not to have got the winner. Throughout the game the stand out performer was Will H. He played like he's been playing for years and displayed endless energy on the right wing all day.
Girl's Development:
The Development Girl's headed to Eastbourne last week and were obviously keen to make an impression. Eastbourne kindly lent Crowborough a goalie and they started really strong in the 1st half, the passing was great and the speed on the ball was excellent. 10 mins in and the Girl's were 2:0 up. They played with width and speed all throughout the 1st half which meant they managed to make the score 4:1 by half time. Not long into the 2nd half the Crow's slammed another goal into the net! Eastbourne brought on their adult player who sat back supporting the keeper and it made the job for the attacking line so much harder but they continued to hammer away at them. Eastbourne grabbed a lucky break and with an overlap in numbers managed to sneak a 2nd into the net. The game finished 5:2 to the Girl's, goals were x1 for Catherine, x1 from Lexi and x3 from Lottie. The team played as a team and were outstanding for the full 70 mins.
Boy's Development:
Crowborough Boy's Development played South Saxons on Saturday. Solid defending by the dependable Joe, Henry, Max and Albie kept 2nd place South Saxons at bay in the 1st half and the match remained scoreless despite flashes of brilliance from attackers Hayden and Freddie. Crowborough conceded early in the 2nd half but levelled shortly after. Slick passing between Henry and Elliott, enabled Will to find space and dispatch a thunderous shot. The Crows rallied with Eddie, Johan, Leo and Flynn controlling the midfield in the last 10 minutes. George played a decisive pass to Hayden who put Henry through on goal and the striker fired in Crowborough’s 2nd and final goal. Some fine saves from Rufus in the closing minutes meant the boys secured back to back wins from another fine performance in a 2:1 win.
