Week 10 - Match Reports

WOMEN'S 1'S:

On Saturday Crowborough Women's 1's played a strong Hailsham 2's and started the game determined to win after a loss last week. This was a must win game for the Women's 1's as they faced bottom of the league without Captain Sam W.  However the team had the awesome Vice Captain Amanda C who stepped up and led the team to their 2nd well earned victory of the season. The 1st goal for the Crows came from a pass back by to Amanda C who then hit the ball out to the right side of the pitch which found Hannah W in a pocket, she then fed the ball to Kate B who slotted it home for the Ladies. The goals didn't stop coming for Kate B as she completed her hat trick, which included a tomahawk which flew past the opposition's defense and straight into the goal, this amazing play from Kate B earned her Player of the match. The team dug deep in the 2nd half and worked as a unit however they could not convert any of their opportunities into anymore goals for the Crows, this meant the final score was a 3:0 win for the Women's 1's and meant they moved up to 10th place from 12th in the league standings. A special mention also goes out to Goalie Sandra H who saved another penalty flick this season!!!

WOMEN'S 2'S:

On Saturday the Women's 2's faced a strong and well drilled East Grinstead team in the pouring rain and bitter wind. There where lots of debuts for the team this week including, Daisy H, Tilly S, Tabbi C, Poppy C and Flo F who all stepped up to help the 2's field a team this week and in return this game gave them some great experience playing at a higher level against a more challenging opposition. The youngsters tried their hardest and showed great promise for the future which was shown through two of them (Daisy H and Goalie Tilly S) being voted Player of the match. Goalkeeper Tilly S was voted Player of the match for her stonking saves when 1-on-1 many times with the opposition and for always being ready for whatever was coming at her, and Daisy H was voted Player of the match for her awesome distribution on 16's and cracking tackles, she was always there to hassle the opposition into fluffing there shots or just stealing the ball right off them!! It took a while for the team to gel as many of them hadn't played together before which was frustrating for them and meant they went 2:0 down at half time. However the 2nd half was a much better all round performance from the team with the awesome Captain Josie M keeping her teams heads up despite the scoreline and they only conceded 1 goal in the 2nd half. The final score was a 3:0 defeat however on another day it could have been a very different scoreline. Special shout out to Michelle H who really nurtured the youngsters this week by helping them with their positioning and made them feel extremely comfortable on their debuts.

MEN'S 3'S:

Through howling wind and driving rain Crowborough 3's and Crawley 4's battled hard for a 1-1 draw. It was a cagey 1st half until Crowborough found their feet in the last 10 minutes culminating in a brilliant diagonal ball from Stuart S, which was just narrowly missed by Ru M. The 2nd half however had all the action. With a few injuries from both teams Crowborough had some work to do and set about it admirably, pressing high and threatening the Crawley goal constantly. Tim P, Jacob S and Harvey H terrorized the wings all game, while Jude F and Lucas D dominated the midfield; passing well, running well and covering every inch of the playing surface. Crowborough's pressure paid off, winning a short corner which was put away with a good old fashioned whack from Ru M. After Crowborough equalised they went on the hunt, they carried on pressing high, and James L was denied on several occasions by some excellent goal keeping from the opposition, and Harvey Holman who found space for himself in lethal positions was equally thwarted by some great saves and last ditch defending. As Crowborough pressed high and looked for the win, the experienced defence kept out the counter attacks with dominant defending, great saves and brilliant play out from the back by Daniel S Goalkeeper, Justin S, Chris K, Graham C and Andy D. They kept the ball live and returned the pressure straight back onto Crawley. A hard fought game and a well earned draw from both sides, a special mention to umpires Fraser Milne and Vicky Dennett for making good calls at difficult times with multiple stoppages for injuries making life a little harder for them than it needed to be.

GIRL'S DEVELOPMENT:

Girls Development team visited a Blustery/Wet Lewes on Saturday afternoon, the ladies came out fighting instantly! The team were amazing in the first quarter and controlled the game well, lots of passing out wide and losing the line allowed the team to dominate Lewes. Into the second quarter Lotty scored an epic first goal off of a brilliant run from Harriett up the left hand side of the pitch crossing it in for Lotty to slam it in the back of the net! At the start of the 2nd half the girl's came out strong again and within the first minute Lotty found her place once again and chipped a great ball past the keeper for our second! Lewes had clearly had a pep talk at half time and fought strong to steal one back in the 3rd quarter, but the ladies played on strong specifically by using the width of the pitch to gain lots of breaks down the wing. Into the last quarter and the Crows held our own so well up to the last 3 mins of the game when Lewes managed to get the better of the defensive line and stole an equaliser with less than 3 mins to go! The game ended 2-2 but it was an outstanding performance from the whole team! Couch Rob said he could not have been prouder of them!

BOY'S DEVELOPMENT:

Boy's development travelled to Hailsham on Saturday. The lads were equally nimble on the pitch with the energetic Hayden playing in Will to fire home an early goal. Crowborough continued to dominate with George powering through the middle to pick out Will who cooly slotted home his and the team’s second. Eddie and Johan were linking well on the right but it was the pacy Freddie who set up Henry W to score a spectacular third shortly before half time. In the spirit of the league the Crows swapped defense and forwards. Clearly missing the defensive stalwarts of Joe, Henry and Max, Crowborough concede 2 goals and were thankful for some great saves from Keeper Albie. The boys rallied and a surging run from George found Hayden who crossed to the on rushing Will score a superb strike to earn his hat trick and secured victory. The final score was a 4:2 win for the Boy's with great performances all round.

MIXED:

Crowborough Mixed beat Eastbourne Mixed 5-1 in gale force winds on Sunday. While most of Sussex where indoors away from the fierce weather the two hardy sides battled with intensity in an entertaining game. Forward Jen B was on fire scoring a brace of goals, also on the score sheet was Josie M who expertly took down an aerial ball to slot home the ball for the Crows. Another of the Mixed side goals came from short corners with Charlotte R scoring a straight strike which was expertly hit low and in the corner of the goal so the oppositions goalie could not get close to saving the shot. Her fellow Player of the match winner Freddie K was also on the scoresheet after battling through the defense to strike the last goal home for the Crows. Hard running forwards Harry M and Vicky D also came close to goals with great mid play from Amanda C and Lucy K which gave them some awesome opportunities on goal. Defensively Fraser M, Dani N, Tilly R-R and Jethro H were superb at transitions feeding the mid and front players down the sidelines and down the center Ash F distributed brilliantly. When keeper Keren Loder was called into action she proved a safe pair of hands.
