Match Reports - Week 8

WOMEN’S 1’S:

Women's 1's played the high flying Brighton 3's team on Saturday. In a rather physical encounter the team worked hard as a unit but were undone when a fluid Brighton forward line broke the deadlock after 10 minutes. The Crows kept working hard and pressing and following some excellent work by the forward line of Sam W, Tabbi C, Kate B and Flo F, saw Player of the match Kate B break through. Brighton kept pressing with skillful play and Crowborough conceded again to make it 2:1 at half time. The team rallied and the hardworking midfield supported the defence, turning defence into attack meaning the second half started more evenly, however Brighton continued to press and scored 2 more. Undeterred the team went again and some lovely individual work saw Kate B score again, bringing the score back to 4:2. The game finished 5:2 to Brighton with Sandra H making some excellent saves in goal throughout the match.


WOMEN’S 2’S:

Women's 2's played Horsham 5's away on Saturday. The first half was challenging for the ladies, Horsham was made up of a new, younger, well drilled team which made the game a lot tougher and the Crows struggled to find the breaks in play to feed up to the attackers. Due to the high fast presses from Horsham, they managed to bag 2 goals in the first half. In the 2nd half the Crows changed tactics and switched the play round, they jelled better and Eve T led the attacks with Lottie C and Matilda W supporting to make those all important strikes. Captain Josie M returned to the pitch after an injury last season and managed to score a goal for the Crows. The final score was 3:1 loss to for the Crows. Players of the match to goalie Tilly S for her incredible game, who managed to save not one but two penalty flicks. Emily H was also awarded player of the match for an equally incredible game, assisting Tilly S with saving Horsham's shots at goal and holding the back line.


WOMEN’S 4’S:

Crowborough Women's 4's played Burgess Hill for a late 4:30pm pushback on Saturday. They travelled with a full 16 which included 4 girl's development players who got the opportunity to play adult hockey. They had coaches Amanda C and Sarah M on the sideline shouting encouragement and direction which was useful for all players. Unfortunately it didn't seem to gell in the first half for the Crows and they went into the second half 4:0 down but after a quick team talk and change in formation the play got better and better which was shown by them only conceding 1 goal in the second half. Player of the match went to Caroline W for her amazing energy and presence on the pitch. She did not stop running and she made some very important tackles and interceptions. The team look forward the this Saturday and their game against the tough opposition of Lewes Legends.


MEN’S 1’S:

After a couple of weeks off borough travelled to Worthing for another win. Knowing Worthing had started strongly Borough knew it would be a tough game. The Crows started off strong gaining most of the possession and pressing well Worthing had no outlet. With Angus D and turner leading through the midfield Borough broke down worthings attacks time and time again. They gained multiple short corners but couldn’t find the net with the Worthing keeper making some good saves. Worthing had their chances but thanks to Mikey O and a goal line clearance from Mitch it stayed 0:0 until Cameron McC broke through the Worthing defence and from the edge of the D struck boroughs first goal home. Halftime 0:1. Second half showed borough start well again gaining two more quality team goals from Jake F and Freddie L thanks to the distribution from the back from Greg S. Borough dominated for around 20 mins with great play and pressing. Worthing managed to break away on the counter and scored twice in the second half. Borough held off and finished the game 2:3. Another important three points which puts us up to third with only two points separating us from the top spot. Player of the match went to Mikey O.



MEN’S 2’S:

Crowborough Men’s 2s produced a dominant performance powering to a comprehensive 12:3 victory over Brighton in a high-tempo match that showcased attacking flair and relentless pressure. From the opening whistle . Slick passing and sharp movement carved open the opposition defence, leading to an early breakthrough from John P. The momentum continued as Will H and Ethan B added quick goals, giving the hosts a commanding lead inside the first half. The second half sore no lapse in this . Will H completed a superb hat-trick, while Ian E and James L each added well-taken finishes. The midfield duo of Darren P and Matt C dictated the tempo, repeatedly winning possession and launching rapid counterattacks that overwhelmed the visitors. Despite the scoreline, the opposition fought hard and managed to grab three consolation goals, capitalising on brief defensive lapses. But any hint of a comeback was quickly shut down as the lads responded with further strikes from Will hook and Alex S. By full time, 12 goals reflected not only the team’s clinical finishing but also their energy, organisation, and commitment across the pitch. The win extends Crowboroughs strong run of form and provides a major confidence boost heading into their next fixture.


MEN’S 3’S:

Men's threes took a trip to Crawley with a depleted side due illness, but from the starting whistle they ran hard at the opposition, passing was accurate and ball speed high. However the Crawley team pressed with vigor, winning a short corner. Nick S saved the corner and they continued pressing the opposition. Just before the half time break a second short caught a foot on the line leading to a penalty stroke. Nick S stepped up and saved it easily. Going into the half time break the teams were even and 0:0. The second half saw renewed passing accuracy and ball speed in the midfield from Elijah F , Nate P , Alfie H and Lucas D. The vision from the midfield creating lots of opportunities to move the ball up the pitch the defence headed up by Fraser M was strong with both Graham C and Andy D making superb tackles. The attack continued with several chances for Jacob S and Austin H but to no avail. 15 mins into the half captain Justin S pulled a muscle and left the pitch meaning a small reorganization needed. During the changes of positions a a mistake lead to a short corner for Crawley and the first goal. The team rallied and came back with several more attacks leading to some good chances . Bit Crawley capitalised on every mistake earning two more corners and scoring two more goals. Final score 3:0 to Crawley. Crows Player of the match went to Lucas D for his commanding role in the midfield.
